High School Science Teacher

Full-Time, 10-Month Employee, Sagamore Hills Campus

Make a difference every day! Lawrence School seeks a highly qualified, charismatic, and inspiring educator to teach High School science to students in grades 9-12.

Through professional development and continuous on-site training, our talented faculty of educators reach beyond their content areas to become experts in the way learners process information. JOB DUTIES:

Fulfill a full-time teaching schedule that may include:

  • Sections of science classes, including chemistry (Honors and College Prep) and physics (Honors, College Prep, and Advanced Placement)
  • A targeted intervention course (non-graded) to give students additional intervention in an area of greatest need
  • Typical teacher duty assignments, such as lunch, activity, and/or dismissal

Ensure the academic needs of every student are met:

  • Maintain an engaging and highly-structured learning environment that minimizes disruptions and distractions
  • Utilize diverse teaching strategies and an individualized instructional approach
  • Integrate the school’s educational and assistive technology tools into the classroom experience
  • Circulate within the classroom—connecting with students one-on-one and effectively implementing the curricula

Provide excellent customer service and communication to parents:

  • Prepare for and participate in bi-annual Parent-Teacher Conferences
  • Attend special meetings regarding a specific student’s achievement
  • Respond to any parent contact within 24 hours
  • Meet/exceed the school’s requirements for communication touchpoints

Contribute to the school’s positive work environment:

  • Engage in campus life by coaching/advising an after-school club, sport, or other extracurricular activity
  • Participate in the school’s on-site training and professional development opportunities
  • Enter assignments and grades into the school’s database, ensuring information is current and posted for view each week
  • Complete assigned paperwork and reports thoroughly and promptly (e.g., IEP progress reports, grade reports, parent summary reports, and more)
  • Collaborate with campus leadership on issues related to students, parents, or the operation of the school as a whole

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or associated content area
  • An intrinsic desire to celebrate students who learn differently, relate to their experiences, honor their perspectives, and support their growth
  • Previous experience as a classroom teacher preferred but not required
  • An eagerness to learn and implement Lawrence School’s teaching methodology
  • The ability to clearly set and consistently maintain classroom expectations
  • A willingness to partner with parents and school leadership

Lawrence School is a co-ed, K-12, independent school serving approximately 300 students from 11 counties and 80 communities across Northeast Ohio. We have two campus locations in Northeast Ohio. The Lower School in Broadview Heights serves kindergarten- through sixth-grade students, while the Upper School in Sagamore Hills serves seventh- through 12th-grade students.
