Lawrence isn’t your average school. We’re obsessed with our mission, with constant improvement, and with putting kids first. We know children learn differently, and so we teach differently — adapting the learning environment to suit the needs of our students instead of the other way around.
Our faculty, who have special training in learning differences, expertly implement diverse strategies to help all students reach their “a-ha” moments.
We prioritize social-emotional and life skills alongside academics and draw from everything we've learned over the last 50 years to ensure every student fulfills their academic potential. Every school educates kids, but it's the WAY we teach at Lawrence that changes the trajectory of our students.
Our school-wide, Orton-Gillingham based instructional approach combines multisensory activities with structured, personalized lessons to meet students where they are and help them connect with concepts they struggle to grasp.
We employ Responsive Classroom techniques to ensure a student-first focus in our instruction. Simple, yet impactful, activities in the classroom make a world of difference in how students feel and interact with their teachers and classmates.
Assistive technology levels the playing field for students whose learning difference prevents them from achieving success in a traditional classroom environment. At Lawrence, technology is thoughtfully embedded into daily life in a seamless K-12 integration.
Executive Function Support
Deficits in executive function skills often go hand in hand with learning differences and ADHD. But did you know these skills can improve significantly through metacognitive classroom strategies and techniques? At Lawrence, we believe developing strong organization, active listening, and time management skills is as essential to a student’s success as their academic performance.
What is OG-based multisensory instruction, anyway?
Our commitment to this style of teaching is rooted in decades of research on how students with learning differences best retain information.
