Lawrence Lower School recently hosted two inspiring author visits that celebrated reading, kindness, and deep connections to the Lawrence community.
We extend a huge thanks to author Gino Tomaro for reading his books, "Nicholas and the Sharing Ball" and "Nicholas Adventures: The Kindness Bubbles."
Tomaro’s visit was especially meaningful because he is a former student who attended school right here when our building was Wallings Road Elementary! He shared the motivation behind his work with our students: "Hopefully these stories impact a kid and they'll remember to do something kind and make a good choice. That's what this whole thing is about."
We also welcomed local author Dina Younis, who read her book "S is for Secondhand." She chatted with the students about the entire creative journey—from where the idea originated to the full writing and publishing process.
Younis has deep ties to Lawrence School, too. She's married to Lawrence alum and Grammy-nominated jazz guitarist, Dan Wilson; her mother-in-law was a longtime member of the School Board; and her best friend, Shannon Galambos, teaches at the Upper Campus. She shared her appreciation for the school's mission, noting, "I feel very connected to the school, and I just love the mission here. My husband will cherish this place forever."
These visits inspired our students with stories of creativity, kindness, and lifelong success.
