As a parent of three Lawrence School students, Douglas Emancipator brings a unique perspective to his role as Director of Middle School. Emancipator is passionate about guiding students through this pivotal stage of their education—and lives.
Imagine a learning environment that enhances your child's focus, learning, and overall academic success. In Lawrence's Middle School, students receive executive function support and are equipped with the skills to effectively use assistive technology and advocate for themselves in the classroom.
At Lawrence, a positive and enjoyable learning environment directly benefits our students, especially during these transition years. Through small class sizes, evidence-based instruction, assistive technology, and a culture of empowerment, middle schoolers grow into classroom leaders who are well-prepared for the advanced concepts and academic demands of high school.
Lawrence students thrive in project-based learning experiences, such as our Entrepreneurship Program and our recent partnership with NASA, which provides real-world connections to actual experiments and research.
"Our students thrive in project-based learning experiences, and the Entrepreneurship Program is designed to unlock the potential of students with dyslexia or ADHD," Emancipator said. "Our kids can be extremely creative, innovative thinkers, resourceful, and resilient—all qualities that our world needs. This curriculum challenges them to adopt a growth mindset while honing their innate skills. The transition from sixth grade to seventh grade often involves adjusting to new expectations. Our goal is to help students prepare for eighth grade and beyond."
