Already a member of the Lawrence family as a parent (Bella ’28, Evie ’32, and Sofia ’33), Douglas Emancipator has joined Lawrence as an administrator, becoming the new director of middle school.
Prior to Lawrence, he taught at John F. Kennedy High School in Warren, Ohio, for four years before joining the science department at Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland, where he taught for the last 11 years.
Among his many contributions to Saint Ignatius include conceptualizing, staffing, building curriculum, and overseeing the opening of the Welsh Academy, a middle school serving underprivileged youth in Cleveland. The goal—to educate students in the Jesuit tradition to ready them for a college-preparatory secondary education. In 2018, Mr. Emancipator received the Saint Ignatius Welsh Award for Outstanding Teachers.
He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Education from Ursuline College in 2003 before earning his Master of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology from Case Western Reserve University in 2008.
