College Credit Plus Virtual 2024-2025 Information Night

Posted December 13, 2023 in Life at Lawrence

If you are a returning College Credit Plus (CC+) family or your child is interested in CC+ as an option for next school year, please RSVP to Lisa Brogan at lbrogan@lawrenceschool.org or 330.908.6826 to attend our virtual presentation Monday, Jan. 8, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. A Zoom link invite will be emailed to you. This is a mandatory meeting for all families each year per the state of Ohio's funding requirements.

Although the state of Ohio offers the CC+ program to qualified students in grades 7-12, Lawrence recommends CC+ for qualified students entering 11th or 12th grade during the 2024-2025 school year.

  • Learn about college classes offered at Lawrence for grades 10-12, options for qualified underclassmen, and the state of Ohio’s qualification requirements.
  • Hear from Tri-C professors about college-level expectations and preparedness, social/emotional/executive functioning readiness, and student responsibilities.

To qualify for the program, any student below a rising 10th grader will need to complete the following steps for required Tri-C placement tests (the test determines college readiness based on college level Algebra math and collegiate English essay prompts and multiple choice questions that are scored by the software) as noted by Tri-C's administration:

  • The student will need to register with Tri-C to obtain a student ID number (their S#).
  • In order to receive testing accommodations, students will need to set up an appointment with the Eastern Campus Tri-C Student Accessibilities Services Office to go over their current IEP or Lawrence accommodation plan. The SAS office will determine what test accommodations they qualify for.
  • Students will need to coordinate with the SAS Eastern Campus to take the placement test(s) as they will set the test up with a student's approved accommodations. Testing takes place at a local Tri-C campus testing center. Per the state of Ohio, a student needs to test into college level Algebra to qualify to be in the CC+ program. Placing at this level would allow a student to take most classes without prerequisites. Remedial placement does not qualify for the program.
  • If a student wishes to take the English 1010 class on a campus, they would need to take the English placement test, too. Students will need to score a 5 or higher to qualify for this class. Remedial placement does not qualify for this class.

Most importantly, students below a rising 10th grader who place into CC+ would be eligible to take CC+ classes on their own, but not classes at Lawrence due to the nature of the Lawrence School middle school curriculum and block scheduling. Upper School Academic Dean, Rama Janamanchi, will work with any qualified families to help schedule times for interested students to leave Lawrence early if they needed to go to a Tri-C campus for later afternoon classes.
