Sure, the heat made summer days a little hazy, but contrary to the old song lyrics these Lions were far from lazy! More than 1,000 raffle tickets were submitted for our annual Tails & Tales Summer Reading Raffle. That’s more than 3,000 hours of reading!
Not always an activity of choice for students with dyslexia or other language-based learning differences, parents who turn reading into a fun family routine and assistive technology like Learning Ally help students discover a good book is so worth the effort. And by throwing in a little healthy summertime competition, we keep these bookworms engaged and sharpening their skills.
Across grade levels, students caught up with Harry Potter, Anne Shirley, Frodo Baggins, Hank Zipzer, Atticus Finch, Fly Guy, and Percy Jackson. Choices ran the gamut, from National Geographic to biographies of fave celebs, graphic novels, and titles about Minecraft building and Pokemon catching. But no matter what left readers clamoring for one more page, every participant earned a small prize for their efforts and a grand prize entry for every three hours spent reading.
