Theresa Kaska Named IDA Northern Ohio Branch President

We are pleased to share that our very own Theresa Kaska, who has been a teacher at the Lower School since 2015, has been named president of the International Dyslexia Association Northern Ohio branch.

IDA is the premier non-profit literacy organization dedicated to the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based, quantitative research in literacy instruction. Mrs. Kaska has been a member of IDA since 2013 and a member of its board since 2015.

"What started out as advocating for my own child became something that was even bigger than the both of us," Mrs. Kaska said. "This group has a seat at some pretty impressive tables – at the local, state and federal levels. I am humbled to be in the same room as our founding board members who have taken our branch so far. We now have dyslexia laws in Ohio because of their dedication and perseverance."

In addition to her new appointment at the local level, Mrs. Kaska currently sits on the National Editorial Board of IDA and presents regularly at conferences across the country – providing professional development to educators on the topics of early literacy, dyscalculia, multisensory math and more.

The IDA Northern Ohio branch is a tremendous resource in the region – offering Wilson Reading workshops and dyslexia simulations throughout the year, as well as an annual symposium. More information can be found at https://noh/dyslexiaida.org.

"I'm eager to serve, share and help in my new role," Mrs. Kaska said. "I'm most excited about our organization's impact in the community and fulfilling our mission – to offer hope, education, and the opportunity for personal success to people with dyslexia and those who interact with them in Northern Ohio. We believe it is never too late to provide remedial services to individuals with dyslexia."

Mrs. Kaska is a graduate of Mount Union College and earned her Master of Education from Notre Dame College. She is also a licensed intervention specialist for students with learning differences in grades K-12, as well as a Certified Academica Language Therapist (CALT) and Certified Dyslexia Therapist (CDT). She enjoys family time with her husband and her three boys.
