Lawrence Faculty Continue Multisensory Math Professional Development

We are excited to share that our faculty will benefit from additional professional development in Multisensory Math with new training beginning on Monday, April 16.

Lower School Teachers and administrators will be participating in the 30-hour Multisensory Math 1 Course, while Upper School Math and Science teachers and administrators will participate in the 30 hour Multisensory Math 2 Course.

Prior to the start of the 2016-17 school year, Lawrence faculty participated in a Multisensory Math workshop with Marilyn Zecher, a nationally certified academic language therapist.

Multisensory Math applies Orton-Gillingham multisensory instructional strategies – which are most commonly associated with reading, spelling and writing – to mathematics. Using a multi-sensory teaching approach means helping a child to learn through more than one of the senses.

Hands-on work with manipulative objects is recommended for all students at all ages as it enhances both concept integration and memory. However, this approach is especially important for students who learn differently and those with conceptual gaps.

We are proud to provide these professional development opportunities to our faculty in order to better understand and serve our students!
