Director of the Tutoring Center

Part-Time, 12-Month Employee (Evenings and Saturdays)

Compensation: $28.00–$31.00 per hour
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Overview:

Lawrence School seeks a talented, charismatic, and inspiring Director for our Tutoring Center. The chosen candidate will be responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of a robust tutoring and support center for the community at large.

The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership qualities, a deep understanding of literacy theory, and knowledge/sensitivity regarding the needs of students with learning and attention differences. A passion for helping students achieve success, exceptional organizational and communication skills, and the ability to interpret student progress data are essential.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in education with classroom experience preferred.
  • Intervention Specialist degree and 3-5 years of experience teaching students with learning differences or coaching teachers in best practices preferred.
  • Embraces the teacher/coach model to address professional development needs.
  • Proactive with excellent critical thinking, written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, timely implementation, and quality performance.
  • Consistently demonstrates impeccable honesty, integrity, discretion, and judgment in all interactions.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instruction and Management

  • Plans and implements the operations of the Center in cooperation with the Associate Head of School and the Administrative Coordinator of the Ethan D. Schafer Center.
  • Establishes overall policies and procedures in alignment with Lawrence School’s mission and vision.
  • Recruits, trains, and supports tutors within the program in tandem with the Associate Head of School, Lower School Academic Dean, and Administrative Coordinator of the Ethan D. Schafer Center.
  • Supervises and evaluates Tutoring Center staff and oversees all evening and Saturday operations, including Alphabet Adventures.
  • Maintains appropriate enrollment, registration, and student records in accordance with Business Office guidelines.
  • Secures required classrooms, materials, and supplies for ongoing operations.

Instructional Support & Evaluation

  • Observes tutor performance, providing feedback and recommending instructional improvements.
  • Assesses tutor skills and needs to recommend professional development that increases student achievement.
  • Evaluates student progress using data to ensure proper curriculum placement and recommends additional support services when necessary.
  • Prepares written scope/sequence guides, lesson plans, and reports to support best practices in reading, writing, mathematics, and subject-area instruction.
  • Promotes and maintains positive, collaborative relationships with the Ethan D. Schafer Center, the Advancement Office, and the broader school community.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Represents Lawrence School at community and professional functions.
  • Participates in continual professional development and learning opportunities.
  • Supports the mission of Lawrence School and performs other work-related duties as assigned.
